As a young Caribbean Black woman in Chicago, I’ve always been immersed in art—whether through music, visual art, graphic design, or literature. Surrounded by diverse creators, I was drawn to amplify their voices and stories. I wanted to give others a platform to express themselves, and this passion led me to double-major in Art History and Visual Administration, and Arts, Advocacy, and Community Education.
The intersection of social justice and the arts has become central to my work. Art has always been a powerful tool for social change—highlighting injustices, raising awareness, and inspiring action. It gives marginalized voices a platform, helping to confront issues like racial, economic, and gender inequalities. Through art, we can spark movements, tell untold stories, and create empathy.
As I continue my academic and creative journey, I’m committed to using art to promote social justice, advocate for marginalized communities, and foster positive change. Art can heal, transform, and mobilize, and it’s through creative activism that we can make a more equitable world.
As an avid lover of music, particularly neo-soul, 90s R&B, retro soul, modern R&B, and jazz, I find that music profoundly influences the way I create and express my unique perspective on the world. Through various creative outlets such as poetry, photography (both digital and film), painting, and more, I capture memories that serve as both reminders to live authentically and to embrace the present moment.
