Thea Bowman said “I know that God is using me in ways beyond my comprehension.” and for that I want to thank God for this talent that He has blessed me with and that He will continue to do so.

Thea Bowman was a woman of deep faith, profound intellect, and unwavering courage. As a Catholic sister, educator, and scholar, she became one of the most powerful voices for racial justice within the Church. She dedicated her life to bridging faith and culture, reminding us that spirituality is not separate from who we are but instead enriched by it.

What made her so powerful was not only what she said, but how she lived. She showed us that faith can be joyful. That truth can be spoken with both honesty and love. And that unity does not mean sameness but rather a deep respect for the beauty of our differences.

This portrait is more than an image. It is a presence. It is a reminder. It asks something of us. It invites us to reflect on how we are continuing the work that Sister Thea began. It reminds us that representation matters—that who we choose to honor shapes who feels seen, valued, and included.

The Young Women of Color Symposium (YWOCS) is an empowering annual leadership conference for 6th–12th grade, self-identified young women of color in the Chicagoland area. Co-organized and hosted on a rotating yearly basis by the Francis W. Parker School and Loyola Academy, the event typically takes place in March. Here i lead as one of the core student founder and organizer, managing multiple teams, marketing, and merch with over 400 students wearing merch with the YWOCS logo.
